Who Are You Hangin’ With?

I shared this story recently with our SFM/DEA Black Members who attended a Mastermind Retreat in Miami, and I wanted to share it with you.  <3 A few months ago, I sat in a room with 25-30 other entrepreneurs engaging in a Mastermind…all of us aligned and moving in the same direction with our businesses. All of these amazing people have a vision to help others, to become their best self, to assist each other in our efforts, and also…to change the world. On this particular day, I walked in on a BIG man, an ex-football player who I’d just met and loved instantly, telling the story of his life. He spoke through tears, of his life’s triumphs and tragedies. His heart was on the table for all to see. This moment was utterly beautiful. I learned that I’d walked in on a process…an individual, personal story-telling process. All the attendants were telling their stories one by one as they went around the room. I’d had conversations with one of my new friends, about telling our life’s story. In these conversations, I’d expressed that I so loved hearing others’ stories and that for me, listening and not telling my own story was what I enjoyed. I was not in any way keen on telling my story…to anyone. But on that day…I did. I told my story because I absolutely did not want to. I told my story because I came to see that it would help others connect, and that we would all move forward in a synchronized way. It was truly an “out-of-body” experience; very intense for me.
